Neurosurgery in Nigeria: Renaissance, Growth, and Opportunities
INTRODUCTION
Nigerian Neurosurgery started in 1962 with the return of Dr. Latunde Odeku, the first Nige- rian and black African trained in the USA, to the University of Ibadan. Dr. Odeku had trained under Dr. Eugene Spitz of the Spitz-Holter shunt valve fame, amongst others1,2. He was ap- pointed professor in 1965. He started the Neurosurgery unit at the University of Ibadan and pub- lished widely – over 100 articles.1 He is well-known for the Odeku-Adeloye cyst, a congenital subgaleal cyst located over the anterior fontanelle.2 He was greatly involved in establishing both the West African Postgraduate Medical College and the Nigerian Postgraduate Medical College.3

Neurosurgery and Training in Sudan Amid Ongoing Armed Conflict
Since April 2023, Sudan has been engulfed in a large-scale armed conflict that has profoundly disrupted state institutions, civilian life, and the healthcare system. What began as a power struggle rapidly evolved into a nationwide crisis marked by widespread displacement, destruction of infrastructure, and prolonged insecurity. Within this context, healthcare delivery has been particularly vulnerable. Neurosurgery, as a highly resource-dependent specialty reliant on trained personnel, functional referral networks, and advanced technology, provides a clear lens through which the broader consequences of the conflict on medical care and training can be understood.

Anticoagulation Reversal in Neurosurgery
Introduction
Reversal of anticoagulation is one of the most critical medical managements a neurosurgeon can provide. Under-reversal can result in devastating expansion of hematomas and subsequent death or permanent disability. Over-reversal can result in hyper-coagulable state causing occlusion of the coronary, pulmonary, and peripheral vasculatures, also resulting in death or permanent disability. With the correct reversal regiment, patients have improved odds of stabilized hemorrhages, safer operations when indicated, and discharge to either rehabilitation or home.
