    Keio University offers International Fellowship in Neurosurgery

     

    About the Training Center:

    The Keio University School of Medicine was established in 1917, with renowned microbiologist Dr. Shibasaburo Kitasato serving as its first dean. Kitasato's vision of unity between basic medical research and clinical medicine has guided the school since its inception. Over the past 100 years, Keio University School of Medicine has become a major center for world-leading medical research and education, and plays an indispensable role in the development of medical care in Japan.

     

    Program Details:

    Prof. Kazunari Yoshida, the Chairman, Department of Neurosurgery at Keio University School of Medicine, Tokyo, Japan, offers a 6-month non-paid international visiting fellow. Traveling expenses should be borne by the candidate.

    During that time the fellows have an observer status only, and are not permitted direct patient contact. The fellows have the liberty to observe any Neurosurgical subspecialty they are interested in, which include: complex skull base, cerebrovascular, brain tumors, functional, endoscopic and interventional neuroradiology. The visiting fellows can choose to participate in our cadaver dissection program. Candidates will be allowed attend to conferences, workshops and other educational activities in Japan during the fellowship period.

     

    We can prepare three stay accommodations as follows:

    1. The ‘’ Dream House” in Yokohama

    This house has 3 rooms, a Living, a Dinning and Kitchen.
    It takes one hour by a train from Yokohama to Keio University Hospital, and the pass ticket is about 16,070 yen/month (this pass ticket fee is supported by our department). The bathroom, the rest room, and kitchen are cooperation though the room is separate (not private room) because it is accommodations of cooperation for international student. The room fee will be covered by our Department.

    1. The Keio Guest House

    It takes 10 minutes on foot from Keio University Hospital.
    The room charge that candidate have to pay is 60,000yen ($700)/month. Rooms are furnished with basic furniture and equipment (bed, desk, closet, telephone, plates, pots and pans etc.).

    1. The Keio International Residence in Minato-ku, Tokyo

    It takes 15 minutes by train and 10 minutes on foot from Keio University Hospital and the train pass ticket will be 7,500yen/month. Minimum rent is one month. Above one month, rent is calculated on a daily basis (one month is presumed to have 30 days) for those leaving in the middle of the month. Rental fee is approximate 100,000yen ($1200)/month. Rooms are furnished with basic furniture and equipment (bed, desk, closet, telephone, plates, pots and pans etc).

     

    Required documentation:

    • A copy of the passport or the ID card
    • A copy of the diploma in Medicine or a certificate issued by the Faculty of Medicine.
    • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
    • The letter(s) of recommendation.
    • A motivation letter

     

    How to Apply:

    The applicant please fill out the Online Application Form. Only the online application will be accepted. At the end of satisfactorily completing the rotation, observer Certificates are issued by the Keio University and the WFNS.
