With great success, the XVII World Congress of Neurosurgery (WFNS 2022 Bogotá) was held from 13 to 18 March 2022 at the Agora Bogotá Convention Center in Bogotá, Colombia. Despite the pandemic with its endless variants, the travel restrictions that did not allow people from China, Japan, Korea among others to participate, the war in Ukraine that prevented the participation of Ukrainians neurosurgeons and limited the participation of Russian neurosurgeons, 1600 participants from 85 countries attended in person the congress. An academic program of the highest level was presented, including 9 simultaneous sessions of all the specialties and daily plenary sessions, with the participation of prominent figures of Colombian science and culture. During the 6 days of the congress, more than 300 invited speakers made their talks, 408 oral presentations were presented in the personal neurosurgical practice and research sessions and 160 e-posters were displayed on screens during the congress. The WFNS awarded the following prizes:
Besides, the Organizing Committee of the congress paid tribute to Prof. Madjid Samii with a special session entitled Master of Masters and to Dr. Marc Sindou for his Extraordinary Neurosurgeon Life. Moreover, the congress hosted the celebration of the 5th Anniversary of the Bogotá Declaration, the Global Neurosurgery project that the WFNS presented to the World Health Organization and that was built to bring together neurosurgeons around the world to collectively address the unmet need for neurosurgical care, as well as the meetings of the Executive Committee of the WFNS in a hybrid format. Likewise, the extraordinary programmed social activities allowed the participants to learn about cultural, gastronomic and tourist aspects of the city of Bogotá. A flawless organization and the modern facilities of the Agora Bogotá Convention Center help the congress to achieve the established objectives and exceed all expectations.
