With great sadness, we announce the death of Professor Hamid Rahmat, former president of Neurosurgical Society of Iran (NSI) and father of Neurovascular Surgery in Iran.
He was born in 1936 in Kerman, Iran. He graduated from the medical school of Tehran University of Medical Sciences and completed Neurosurgery training in Birmingham, UK.
During 55 years of practice in neurosurgery, he performed more than 3 0 000 surgeries. His impact on the development of neurosurgery in Iran has been profound and eternal.
Dr. Rahmat was chair of Department of Neurosurgery of Tehran University of Medical Sciences, president of NSI till 2017, and chair of Iranian Neurosurgical board council.
He passed away at the age of 84, after a period of illness, on July 2, 2019, in Tehran.
His death is a profound loss for NSI. God bless him and live in peace.
