Dr. Sergio Gonzalez-Arias, MD, PhD, FACS, Chief of the Neuroscience Department at Baptist Hospital of Miami and Chair, Department of Neurosurgery of the Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine in Miami, Florida (USA) offers a four month observership program to young neurosurgeons that meet the WFNS Foundation criteria for its international fellowship program.
The selected fellows will be actively involved in the educational component and observation in all the neuroscience disciplines. Our Neuroscience Center is built on a patient centered, multi-disciplinary culture. The visiting fellows will have ample opportunity to observe all adult and pediatric cranial and spinal surgical procedures, including minimally invasive techniques and stereotactic radiosurgery. Our Neuro-critical ICU and Progressive Care Units under the direction of a Neuro-Intensivist are available for enhancement of the over- all experience. Also, ample opportunity exists within our very active Neuroradiology sub-section, including diagnostic and interventional components.
Of special interest is the ability to observe our novel administrative departmental structure which promotes a collaborative environment between the physicians, neuroscience nursing and hospital administrative personnel in the day-to-day operations of our Center, all focused on optimizing quality of care in a safe and efficient patient care environment.
A monthly stipend of $2600 should cover meals and housing expenses. All travel related expenses are the responsibility of the visiting fellows.
