Universitair Ziekenhuis Brussel is a large university hospital located in Brussels. The department of neurosurgery is a tertiary referral unit and a postgraduate residency training center composed of 5 neurosurgeons.
The department covers a wide spectrum of activities:
- Skull base neurosurgery, open and endoscopic procedures. Pr Bruneau is currently the chairman of the EANS skull base section. The department works in close relation with other European departments on many projects
- Vascular neurosurgery
- Neuro-oncology
- Spinal neurosurgery, with a special focus on the cervical spine and all pathologies requiring the exposure of the vertebral artery
- Pediatric neurosurgery
- Functional neurosurgery, especially focusing on the various modalities in pain management.
The department of neurosurgery works in close collaboration with the VUB (Vrije Universiteit Brussel) on various research programs including:
- Surgical procedures facilitated by Virtual Augmented Reality
- Immunology researches on brain gliomas
- Improvement of the surgical efficiency by Artificial intelligence and video-assisted analysis
- Pain and motion
An access to a cadaver dissection lab is also possible.
Program Details:
The department of Neurosurgery can offer 2 international observerships for a period of 3 - 12 months duration, each for young neurosurgeons.
The fellow will have the opportunity to participate as observer to all the daily activities of the department including outpatient consultations, ward rounds, surgical procedures, conferences and workshops. The fellow will also have the opportunity to actively participate in the research activities and could lead one specific topic.
Fellows could be provided with furnished accommodation.
The Fellowship does not provide any salary or cover any travel expenses.
