About the Training Center:

The Department of Neurosurgery is a center of excellence for the surgical and non-surgical evaluation and treatment of the full range of adult nervous system diseases. The Neurosurgery Department strives to provide personalized patient care in a compassionate and accommodating manner and has the distinction of being the busiest and most technologically advanced neurosurgical unit of the country. Department compromises of 4 full time working consultants and a senior registrar along with a team of 5 training Neurosurgical post graduates, backed by a team of experienced neuro-radiologists, intensivists, and neuro-physicians. The Department deals with a wide spectrum of neurosurgical pathology with special focus on skull base surgery, pituitary surgery, brain tumors, endoscopy, spine surgery, deformity correction and vascular pathologies. Elective surgery is conducted 6 days a week while emergency OT are available all time of a day. About 1400 patients are operated per anum, about 2100 in patients are nursed in a 12 bedded High Dependency Unit setting and 21 bedded ward and approx. 28,000 per annum patients are being treated as outpatient service. The highly advanced imaging facilities at Liaquat National Hospital allow for a very successful outcome of surgery. Sophisticated operating microscopes with florescence, image guided system, Trim line Retractor, and HD endoscopes assist in making delicate surgeries more precise, like endoscopic discectomy, image guided craniotomy, endoscopic pituitary surgeries and endoscopic CSF fistula repairs.

 

Program Details:

The Department of Neurosurgery, Liaquat National Hospital & Medical College is pleased to announce fellowships for young neurosurgeons from underprivileged developing countries. We offer short term fellowships for 4 – 8 weeks and long term fellowships for 6 months. Fellows will be provided meals and in-house accommodation in a room determined by the Center. Successful candidates will be allowed to assist all surgeries and perform selected surgeries under supervision and also to take part in the resident’s on-call roster. The fellow will also be expected to be involved in the management and care of patients under supervision. They will get to attend surgeries, outpatient clinics, departmental meetings and regular educational activities.  Active participation in on-going research activities is strongly encouraged.
