WFNS President Servadei – Neurorehabilitation & Reconstructive Neurosurgery Committee
Virendra Deo Sinha
In the year of 2004, I, an aspiring neuro-traumatologist in India, met Dr. Franco Servadei during his oration at the National Neurotrauma conference in Ludhiana, India. He came across as a simple man with great vision and dreams. In many subsequent meetings in India and Europe, our common aspiration of fighting against Neurotrauma connected us more and more at a personnel level. His electtion as President, World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies, did not come to me as a surprise, as I have seen his grit and dedication. In his tenure, he has proven his efficacy in every way.
His words of appreciation for my contribution in Road Safety Awareness Programmes in India, quoted in a National Meeting in Japan, further boosted my morale to work for prevention of Neurotrauma as well. Perhaps that was his modus operandi – to encourage his younger colleagues especially from LMIC’s.
I was humbled by his appreciation and encouragement to work harder, as he stood like a benchmark. His entrustment to mark me as a Chair of the Neurorehabilitation and Reconstructive Neurosurgery Committee came as a huge responsibility.
However, Dr. Servadei’s guidance and support at every step has made us perform well in these difficult COVID times. He replied each and every message and mail at the earliest. In all conferences that we attended together, he was carefully, patiently, attending to all his duties. I was privileged to host him in my city along with Mrs. Costanza Servadei, equally humble and down to earth. These people are true sculptures of the future of global neurosurgery. We are truly grateful and wish him an ever victorious happy and healthy life ahead.
