Dear Colleagues –

The first item of the December Newsletter, sadly, is the obituary for Professor Ivan Ćirić prepared by the Serbian Neurosurgical Society.

The next item is a report by Professor Eka Wahjoepramono entitled, “Role of Entrepreneurship in Building Neurosurgery: Indonesia”. Many pearls for neurosurgeons everywhere are included on how we can address the needs of global neurosurgery. We invite other dedicated, innovative neurosurgeons to report their projects to expand neurosurgery resources in quality and quantity.

Following is a notice regarding the FIENS-Bassett Global Neurosurgery Fellowship for intraining and junior neurosurgeons in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

Following is a report from the Neurotrauma Committee on improving traumatic brain injury (TBI) care – Chair Andrew Reisner and Co-Chairs Laura Lippa and Andrés Rubiano.

The next items are two reports of recent conferences: (1) the 39th Congreso Latinamericano de Neurocirugía (CLAN), held November 21-24 in-person in Guayaquil, Ecuador; (2) the 7th Annual Meeting of the Serbian Neurosurgical Society, held November 24-25 virtually.

The final items are announcements of two upcoming conferences: (1) the 17th WFNS World Congress of Neurosurgery, March 13-18, 2022, Bogotá, Colombia; (2) the 16th Asian Australasian Congress of Neurological Surgeons Congress, September 6-8, 2022, Jerusalem, Israel. Put these conferences on your calendar for 2022!

Finally, as another year under the shadow of the COVID pandemic closes, we wish each of you, your family, and your colleagues best wishes – and a happy New Year (both “Western” January 1 and “Eastern” February 1).
